Broccoli Salad With Raisin Recipe

This is a very basic broccoli salad with raisin recipe I use when out camping or on the boat during my fishing season.

I like having some sort of dried fruit in my broccoli salads and raisins are the best bet when you want something that keeps well without refrigerating.

A red, yellow or orange bell pepper will give the salad a nice colour contrast.  Sunflower seeds can be replaced with pumpkin seeds or your favorite nuts.  Trail mix works as well to give it a healthy crunchiness.

This salad will always taste better if you let is sit in the refrigerator(or cooler if camping) for a few hours before serving and make sure you stir it a few times to help blend the flavours.


4 cups broccoli flowerettes
1/2 cup green onion-chopped
1-2 celery-chopped
1 bell pepper-chopped
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup raisins

1-Creamy Dressing

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp.  cider or wine vinegar 
1 tbsp. mustard
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 clove minced garlic(optional)

2-Oil & Vinegar Dressing

1/2 cup Olive Oil
1 tbsp. cider or wine vinegar
1 tbsp.  mustard
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 clove minced garlic(optional)

Chop broccoli flowerettes into small pieces and put into salad bowl.

Add chopped vegetables,  sunflower seeds, raisins and dressing.  Mix well.

Add salt & pepper if desired, to taste.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours and toss again before serving.
